Moonlighting

Our residents are uniquely positioned for moonlighting opportunities. Residents may begin to moonlight at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in their second year upon receipt of their California State Medical license, DEA license, and approval of residency program leadership and Olive View’s Medical Staff Committee. Residents typically moonlight in the Psychiatric Emergency Room and on the Psychiatry Inpatient Unit. Residents enjoy moonlighting as it provides a source of extra income ($100-150/hr) and the opportunity to practice working independently in a familiar, yet fast-paced, community setting.

To moonlight, residents must remain in good standing with the program. Moonlighting shifts count towards the resident’s work hour limit, as per ACGME standards, and may take place on non-call weekends, weekdays, or vacation time, as to avoid interfering with rotation responsibilities.
